Herman J. Berghoff opened the doors of the historic Berghoff on the corner of State and West Adams in 1898, nearly 120-years ago.
In 1913, he moved next door to our current location at 17 West Adams. Since then, four generations of Berghoffs have sold countless Reubens, sauerbratens, and schnitzels. Beginning in 1984, The Berghoff became known not only for its German-American fare, but also for hosting an annual Oktoberfest celebration. This year we are excited to continue the tradition inside our beautifully restored bar. We hope that you enjoy our traditional dishes, festive décor, live entertainment, and rich history (and of course a pint or two of Märzen!) as much as we do this Oktoberfest season. Prost!
“We came along 33 years ago as one of the first festivals of its kind. We were organized; we were ready to have a great time and show the city we were still here.”- Herman J. Berghoff, grandson of founder Herman J.Berghoff, 2017
