200-Mile Initiative
Jun 30-Oct 31, 2010
Berghoff Catering & Restaurant Group has operated with a "green attitude" for over 111 years. Since founder and namesake, Herman Berghoff, opened our doors in 1898, we have been dedicated to running a sustainable business and embracing environmental initiatives. Since 1986, fourth-generation, Carlyn Berghoff, and her team have striven to create new standards, and this June, we turn a new page in special events and casual dining...
In our century-long commitment to providing the freshest ingredients and supporting local economy, we introduce to you the 200-Mile Initiative. From the months of June through October, Berghoff will be offering select meals created solely from seasonal ingredients and produce purchased within a 200-mile radius of Chicago. Enjoy savory cuisine all while reducing your global footprint.
From one family business to another…
Small farms make up about 80% of the two million farms in the U.S.,1 and most of these farms are family-owned. The Berghoff has been family-owned and operated since 1898 and is Chicago’s oldest family-owned restaurant. We are very passionate about keeping family farmers in business and supporting a sustainable food community.
Go the extra mile; eat local.
There are many benefits to eating local. It supports a more sustainable food system and has many personal benefits as well. Local foods are fresher, natural and more nutritious. In a local food system, crops are handled less, which assures a higher quality product.
Support local farmers, discover the benefits of fresh ingredients and go the extra mile (or 200) with Berghoff Catering & Restaurant Group. Check out our menus to see what 200-mile meals are available in the restaurant for July or contact an expert to set a 200-mile menu for your next special event!
