What a great memory! Berghoff does make our own rye bread, called Berghoff Home Rye. It sounds like it may be the same bread you remember, as it is large and has somewhat of a hard crust. While we do not sell it anywhere, I invite you to come into the Restaurant next time you are in town and enjoy some of it. I am sure we will be able to find you a loaf or two to take home as well.
The recipe for Berghoff Home Rye is not only in The Berghoff Family Cookbook, but I have also added it to my Recipe section. I encourage you to try it yourself at home and see if it resembles your memories.
