Valentine's Day for Families

Friday, Feb 12, 2010

Valentine’s Day is steadily approaching, and couples are bustling to make reservations at their favorite restaurants. The Berghoff is filling up with lovebirds, anxious to try our special Valentine’s menu as we speak. But for those of you who don’t have plans to go out this weekend – who have more mouths to feed than your own – there are still options.

Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be just for couples – it can be a day for the whole family to enjoy! Just because you’re a parent doesn’t mean you can’t still celebrate; it just means you have even more loved ones to celebrate with.

One of my favorite things to do is to cook with my family. Some of my most memorable moments have been in the kitchen, laughing and loving with my wonderful husband and three beautiful children.  I am blessed to be able to share my passion (cooking) with my family, and I would love to share a couple recipes you and your family will love to make at home together.

So grab your kids, grab your sweetheart, and, most importantly, grab your apron!

Homemade Pizza Crust

Pizza is a great dish that your whole family can agree on. Here is my recipe for Homemade Pizza Crust. Add your favorite toppings, and give it a special Valentine's twist by positioning the toppings in the shape of a heart or a flower.

 Chocolate Brownies

For dessert, you and your family will love these Chocolate Brownies. When the Berghoffs bake something chocolate, they’re not kidding about the chocolate. These rich, dense brownies remind me of my childhood. I don’t think they need any sauce or topping, but dress them up for Valentine’s Day! Use chocolate sauce to write Valentine’s messages on the plates or top them with some lightly sweetened whipped cream and your favorite Valentine’s candy.

If your family is anything like mine, the way to their hearts is through their stomachs. So have a Happy Valentine’s Day, and may you always have happy hearts and full bellies.
