Come indulge in a century of history, as you experience the evolution of a Chicago-born landmark establishment. The Berghoff, standing 116 years old, invites you to become a part of the family.

On this intimate, behind-the-scenes tour, guests will take a guided walk through both public and private spaces in our historic building, while also getting a chance to indulge in some of The Berghoff’s classic menu items.
Guests will learn about The Berghoff’s debut at the World’s Fair in 1893, receiving the first liquor license after Prohibition was repealed in 1933, and get a glimpse into our daily operations and food preparations. Guests will also get a comprehensive explanation into our rich buildings history and beautiful artwork.
While learning about the Berghoff family history, you will enjoy three classic Berghoff food items (mini bratwurst, reuben, and apple strudel), one of our five beers to sample and, of course, our famous Berghoff root beer! Each tour will last approximately 60 minutes.
**Please be aware that guests will be required to walk up and down several flights of stairs. Due to building restrictions there is no elevator available for assistance***

This traditional keg tapping ceremony kicks off our month-long Oktoberfest celebration, which swings into high gear the following week when The Berghoff’s 29th Annual Oktoberfest gets underway.
The first keg of our authentic Berghoff Oktoberfest Lager will be tapped at 6: 30pm on September 4th. Come sample this seasonal hand-crafted brew and enjoy complimentary bar bites (mini brats and potato pancakes). Cheers to Oktoberfest with your friends as we ring in the 29th year of Chicago’s largest and longest running festival with $3 steins, $4 pints, and $10 liter steins of Oktoberfest in the bar area.
A Berghoff Beer Representative will be on hand to answer all your brewing questions. Don’t miss our mascot, Herman the German, who’s always ready for a photo opp. Plus enter to win great door prizes, including Oktoberfest swag, Chicago Cubs tickets and more!

Berghoff brings Bavaria to the Loop –The 29th Annual Berghoff Oktoberfest takes place September 10 – 12, 2014. Chicago’s largest, longest-running Oktoberfest celebration will be held at the John C. Kluczynski Federal Plaza in downtown Chicago, with free daily admission from 11:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Our open-air celebration boasts the best Bavarian-style revelry Chicago has to offer with classic German food, Berghoff’s private-label Oktoberfest beer, and Bavarian polka performances by the beloved Johnny Wagner Band. Admission is free. This year’s festivities include live entertainment by:
- Johnny Wagner Band: 11:45 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept 10 through Friday, Sept 12
- Wedding Banned: 5 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 10
- Party Faithful: 5 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 11
- Spoken Four: 5 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 12
Authentic German Fare For Every Diet – The festival menu features classic favorites like bratwurst, BBQ chicken, smoked sausage, corn on the cob, Bavarian soft pretzels (with beer-cheese sauce), chocolate chip cookies and apple strudel as well as Berghoff Beer and a variety of wines. This year the Berghoff is also proud to offer delicious vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free items, including Quinoa & Grilled Vegetable Salad, gluten-free German Pork Stew and gluten-free beer.
And the party continues inside our restaurant through Oct 4 with even more traditional German food offerings, festive décor and special events including:
