Oktoberfest may be over, but who’s to say you can’t still tailgate Oktoberfest style.  I may not be the biggest sports fanatic, but the one thing that goes with sports is food…and that I can do!

I realized it was football season when my son ran into the house Monday night asking if he could try out for the football team.  He proceeded to take me outside as I watched him punt the football, proving to me his “kicker” abilities and pleading to stay up late for the Bears/Lions Monday night football game.  I soon realized this was something the whole family could enjoy, and thus the idea for tailgating…Oktoberfest style arose.

Why not celebrate the change of seasons with a tailgate that guest won’t soon forget. Fall is not complete without beer, brats, and football.  From appetizers to entrees, the perfect tailgating party is something simple, fun, and can be done in your own kitchen or backyard.

The perfect brat: Brats are that timeless German sandwich, best served hot on buns with German potato salad, sauerkraut, and smothered Onions.

*Grilling boar, venison or duck sausages are a delicious and unique option for a tailgating party.

Not a boring old roll: Brats and sausages aren’t complete without the pretzel roll.  Try incorporating fall into the menu by using a maple pretzel roll.  The combination of savory sausage with sweetness and saltiness of maple pretzel roll create the perfect unison of flavors.  Your guests will be pleasantly surprised.

Don’t forget the beer: Football and beer go together like peanut butter and jelly. Oktoberfest Berghoff beer is a great fall beer that compliments the flavors of the season and goes perfectly with brats.  Just make sure there’s enough to go around!
