It’s that time of the year… Oktoberfest is right around the corner (and lately what seems like always on my mind). This year marks the 26th annual Berghoff Oktoberfest, kicking off Wednesday September 14 and running through Friday September 16. Our team has been busy preparing for many months and I am excited to see some of the great additions to this year’s fest; our 45 Foot Brat (an attempt to break the Midwest record for longest brat), in addition to the classics; Spot the Brat, Mercy Home For Boys & Girls, brats, beer, live music, and a Bavaria in your backyard.
Oktoberfest is truly one of my all time favorite memories at The Berghoff. What started as an indoor festival in September of 1984, soon moved outdoors the following year, due to the high attendance. Modeled after the original Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany, the world’s largest fair is a 16-18 day festival held annually. Munich’s Oktoberfest began in 1810 as a wedding celebration for the royal couple (Crowne Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen), and continues to attract more than 5 million people a year. Much like the original Oktoberfest, we too serve our own (Berghoff) Oktoberfest beer, bratwurst, sauerkraut, barbeque chicken thighs, pretzels, apple strudel, and many more, while enjoying true Chicago culture. Berghoff Oktoberfest continues to attract hungry, thirsty, and happy Chicagoans year after year and I can’t wait to see what is in store for us this September!
